The clouds grew tired of the electrical wires’ henchman,
Humans, abusing the trees—lopping off their limbs
And leaving them in awkward and compromised positions.
Whenever a tree mistook a wire for their friend
And rubbed against them, the wire burned them.
The poles refused to help. They couldn’t believe
They had once been trees. The clouds plotted with
A cold front to create the biggest storm the world
Had ever seen. While the clouds made their plans,
Vines wound up and around the poles, encircled
The wires until they fell to the ground quivering—
And sparked out. The clouds continue to insist
They caused the humans’ disappearance.
