About Info

Artist Name
Cathy Cobb
Artist Statement

I started painting in 2016 after a serious illness, and something inside me just took off. My brushstrokes and palette knife work indicate the range of emotions contained in my subject, the differing levels of thickness and transparency of paints and glazes reveal the complexity of life’s journey, and the range of colors in my collection reveals the delight I take in momentary glimpses of beauty. Having spent much of my childhood and my adult career in churches, I take inspiration from stained glass and how they transfigure their subject when light reflects through them from different angles and perspectives. Like these sacred windows, my paintings attempt to reveal both the intended subject and a deeper universal story that I hope viewers will connect with.
