About Artist

Basic Information

  • Artist Statement

As a retired Louisiana Tech University journalism professor who taught for 34 years, I use my teaching experience and life-observation skills to share thoughts with readers of the local daily newspaper. Every other Monday, with the exception of certain holidays, my column, "The Journey," is published in the Ruston Daily Leader.

When I conceived the idea for the column, I pitched it to the editor as writing that would show:
    • slice of life events/realizations/etc. (sometimes humorous, sometimes not)
    • observations with a slightly spiritual bent or
    • nostalgia.

Overall, the column is intended to be a feel-good, light-hearted, casual read, although it (hopefully) can sometimes pull at the heartstrings or cause the readers to reflect on more in-depth issues.

As a retired journalism professor, through the years I have found column ideas swirling in my head, virtually ready to put on the page. Although I have a strong background in general news and features, column writing was one area that I had not delved into since college. In 2016, I decided the time was ripe.

    "The Journey" is the result.
