    Andrew Powers is a Jazz guitarist (7 string), composer, arranger, and music educator from Shreveport, Louisiana. Andrew has written music for a variety of ensembles, including Jazz and classical groups. His original compositions have been performed at universities and other community events throughout the state. As a performer, Andrew has played as a soloist and accompanist, and as a member of various Jazz ensembles across the South.
    Andrew earned a Bachelor’s Arts in Music Education from Southeastern Louisiana University where he studied Jazz guitar with Hank Mackey, classical guitar with Patrick Kerber, and composition with Dr. Stephen Suber. Andrew has also studied composition privately with highly accomplished musicians such as Nick Hwang at Louisiana State University and Todd Gabriel at Centenary College.

    Andrew spent five years teaching elementary, middle, and high school music and band in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. He presently teaches music for the Talented Arts Program in Caddo Parish Public Schools. In addition, Andrew also teaches Applied Guitar at Centenary College of Louisiana, and maintains a private guitar studio, where he teaches Jazz and commercial guitar to students ranging from beginners to advanced musicians. During the summer, Andrew is an instructor at the Shreveport Summer Music Festival Jazz Camp, helping young musicians to learn the history and language of Jazz. His students have performed at ArtBreak and other community events, as well as competed in district festivals. Several of his students have been selected to play in All-Parish Honor Band and have received music scholarships to attend college.
