About Artist

Basic Information

  • Artist Statement

To me art is in everyday life, waiting to take form and be realized.  Found objects become great pieces of art once they are assembled in non-traditional ways and looked at differently.  My greatest example of this is creating “Pot Head” sculptures out of broken pieces of pottery which are interlocked and arranged until a face is discovered.  I am thrilled to take something which would have been discarded and transform it into a treasure.  I take great pleasure in creating my own work daily and sharing my knowledge by teaching children and adults to unleash their creativity and explore art.  I enjoy working with all types of people from preschoolers to senior citizens, and receive the greatest rewards by working with individuals who may be considered underserved because of lack of opportunities, but full of artistic talent.  They inspire me to look at life differently and make me value the importance of creativity in daily life.  Art has been my way of communicating with others, removing barriers and finding common ground.  I take great pride in exposing others to the arts and seeing them build confidence in their artistic abilities.  I have been a practicing artist for more than forty years and still learn something new each day.  My primary mediums are found objects, clay, papier mache and painting with acrylics in watercolor style. My recent works deal with the transformation of spirit into matter as realized through creating lines and interlocking shapes.  They come from within; thus figures and faces emerge as puzzle pieces wanting to fit together to represent some type of organization.  As in life, each person is a work of art connecting within themselves and others.  It is exciting to see and feel the pattern I put down on paper take form, sometimes recognizable and sometimes abstract allowing viewers an opportunity to exercise their minds in whatever they see or feel.
